On Sunday, the Bryan brothers announced their retirement from the United States’ Davis Cup team. Twins Bob and Mike Bryan have participated in the tennis tournament representing the US for almost fourteen years.

Mike and Bob Bryan hold the record of winning sixteen grand slam titles together. The 38-year-old duo made the announcement via Instagram with Bob saying, “Mike and I want to formally announce our decision to step down from our role as active members of the U.S. Davis Cup team”. They won the Davis Cup for the USA in 2007 calling it “one of the greatest highlights” of their career and first represented the country in 2003.

The duo defeated their compatriot Brian Baker and his Croatian partner Nikola Mekti? 6–3, 7–6 in the Australian Open’s Round of 16 today. They have won six Australian Open together. They have won an Olympics gold medal in London in 2012 and one bronze medal in Beijing in 2008. In mixed-doubles, Bob betters the two winning seven Grand Slams as compared to Mike’s four.

The United States is to play against Switzerland in the upcoming Davis Cup tournament next month.

Election in Moldova instigates rioting mob demanding recount

Protests which began Monday escalated to a riot on Wednesday consisting of over 10,000 people in Chi?in?u, the capital of Moldova, protesting the results of Sunday’s 2009 Moldovan parliamentary election, which showed an apparent, narrow victory for the Communist Party (Partidul Comuni?tilor din Republica Moldova, PCRM). Demonstrators claim the victory was the result of electoral fraud.

The demonstration escalated to a “flash mob” of between 10,000 to 15,000 communicating via online tools like email, micro-blogging tool Twitter, and social-networking website Facebook. “We sent messages on Twitter but didn’t expect 15,000 people to join in. At the most we expected 1,000”, said Oleg Brega of the activist group Hyde Park.

Police deployed tear gas and water cannons, and fired blanks into the crowd. The rioters threw stones at the riot police and took control of the parliament building and presidential office. A bonfire was built out of parliamentary furniture and all windows below the 7th floor were broken.

Approximately one hundred protesters and 170 police officers are reported as injured. There have been conflicting reports as to whether a female protester died during the altercation.

193 protesters “have been charged with looting, hooliganism, robbery and assault,” said an Interior Ministry spokesperson. This announcement sparked another protest by those demanding the release for those detained.

There is wide speculation about who was to blame for the rioting.

President Vladimir Voronin has expelled the Romanian ambassador from Moldova, blaming Romania for the violent protests. “We know that certain political forces in Romania are behind this unrest. The Romanian flags fixed on the government buildings in Chisinau attest to this” said Voronin. “Romania is involved in everything that has happened.“ Voronin also blamed the protests on opposition leaders who used violence to seize power, and has described the event as a coup d’état.

Protesters initially insisted on a recount of the election results and are now calling for a new vote, which has been rejected by the government. Rioters were also demanding unification between Moldova and Romania. “In the air, there was a strong expectation of change, but that did not happen”, said OSCE spokesman Matti Sidoroff.

“The elections were fraudulent, there was multiple voting” accused Chi?in?u mayor Dorin Chirtoac? of the Liberal Party. “It’s impossible that every second person in Moldova voted for the Communists. However, we believe the riots were a provocation and we are now trying to reconcile the crowd. Leaders of all opposition parties are at the scene,” said Larissa Manole of the Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova.

The Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) proclaimed the PCRM to have won 61 seats in initial counts, enough to guarantee a third term in power for Voronin, who has held the position since 2001. But the Central Election Commission has received evidence of election violations, according to RIA Novosti, and upon recounts conducted of disputed polls, the commission reported that the Communists achieved 49.48% of the Moldovian vote, giving them 60 parliamentary seats — one short of the total needed to win the presidential election. “The electoral commission also granted opposition parties permission to check voter lists, fulfilling one of their chief demands,” said Yuri Ciocan, Central Election Commission secretary.

Voronin will step down in May, however his party could elect a successor with 61 parliamentary seats without any votes from outside parties as well as amend the Constitution. With the PCRM garnering 60 seats, the opposition will have a voice in the presidential election for a new successor.

The western part of Moldova was a part of Romania from the Romania’s independence until the region was detached by the USSR in 1940 to form the Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic. On independence in 1990 the country sought union with Romania but the eastern, Russian- and Ukrainian-inhabited areas of the country declared themselves independent from Moldova and formed the state of Transnistria and movement toward union was halted.

Moldova is Europe’s poorest country, where average income is less than $250 (£168) a month. The country’s neighbours are Romania and Ukraine. Romania is a European Union (EU) state.

Whole Life Insurance All Times Are Good Times For Investments In The Life Insurance Policy

Sometimes some senior citizens believe that they have lived their life and now they do not need to invest in any of the life insurance policy. But this thinking and attitude is not right. When you meet and have a thorough discussion with the life insurance agent then you will find that how important it is to invest in the life insurance policy where age should not be an issue. There are various life insurance policies where you can invest even if you are in your 50’s and even if you have crossed 50’s. Even the elderly people will have to think about their future. Sometimes what happens is they think that they have fulfilled their responsibilities and that their children have completed their studies and now they are well settled in their lives. Their children may or even may not think about the requirements of the elderly parents. Then who will take care of all the expenses which they need? Do they have sufficient amount so that they can lead their further life easily? In some cases the answer may be yes and in some cases the answer may be no. Then what? The senior people have to consider these questions and then they will easily make their mind to invest in any of the life insurance policy so that they do not have to depend on any body for the luxuries in the old age. Obviously they would not be happy if their children’s life is getting disturbed because of their growing expenses. At the age of retirement they will not be able to earn anything and that they will only spend. They may need money for the medicines, newspaper, groceries and many more luxuries. So in this case if they have invested in the life insurance policy where they can get benefit even in their retirement age, then this would be the best solution to all the questions which may arise in their mind.

Their children will their own expenses and responsibilities. They have to think about the educational expenses of their growing children. Then they will not be able to take care of the expenses of the parents. Or even if one of the partners expires, then the other will have to suffer. Especially, if the husband expires then the old wife will have to go through the entire trauma mentally and financially. So it is always a wise decision to invest in the life insurance policy to avoid all these unpredicted incidents. Even I had not invested in any of the life insurance policy until and unless I saw my friend struggling for finances after his retirement. He had two sons. They both were very well settled in their business but they least bothered about their parents. Though they were very rich but they never were anxious to know how their parents were making in their life without sufficient finances. It was then I realized that even I might have to face the same situation after my retirement and then I immediately made a meeting with a financial advisor and invested in the Life insurance policy for over 50’s so that I could lead my life peacefully thereafter.

Original Story

Thursday, March 2, 2006

Buffalo, New York —In an unanimous vote, the City of Buffalo‘s Planning Board voted to table the Elmwood Village hotel Proposal, postponing voting on legislation for up to 30 days.

The Board said its decision was due to the lack of public involvement, saying that there have not been enough meetings.

The Elmwood Village Hotel is a proposed project by Savarino Construction Services Corporation and was designed by Karl Frizlen of The Frizlen Group. The hotel would be placed on Elmwood and Forest Avenues in Buffalo, New York. In order for the hotel to be built, at least five buildings, that include both businesses and residents, must be demolished.

The Forever Elmwood Corp. is a Buffalo-based non-profit organization founded in 1994. Justin Azzarella, the Executive Director for the organization voiced support for the proposal, stating: “I am here today to lend Forever Elmwood’s support the hotel project. Particularly, Forever Elmwood is encouraged by the fact that this building follows the more stringent Elmwood Village Design Guidelines. We have been speaking with Savarino Construction, and they have promised us [Forever Elmwood] that they will engage the community further, including the surrounding Block Clubs and businesses. For that reason, while Forever Elmwood is in support of this project and the type of project that it is, we are asking also that the project be tabled so that the community can be further engaged. Specifically the surrounding Block clubs which include the Granger, Claremont, Asland and The Lincoln Parkway Block Clubs.”

“Because of the excellent work that Karl does and the game plan that they have, I think its an ideal use of this particular location. I think that this particular type of development needs to be encouraged and promoted as opposed to roadblocked,” said a man who owns five properties near the proposal site.

However, Evelyn Bencinich, a resident of Granger Place and whose house would be located directly behind the hotel said, “My property value will be depreciated or non-existent because no one is going to want to live behind a multi-story hotel. We are facing up to a year of noisy and dangerous demolition and construction. Children, pets and even drunk rebellers could wander on site and get hurt. Traffic tie-ups caused by large machinery and garbage bins is inevitable. Where will pedestrians walk? We could experience increased unsanitary flooding in our yards and basements due to the digging and cementing for the underground parking garage. Rats will be displaced into the immediate neighborhoods and be in great abundance. Once we get past the year of nightmare construction, what if you build it and they don’t come? We could ultimately have a seven million dollar rooming house on our corner.”

Patty Morris, co-owner of Don Apparel with Nancy Pollina at 1119 Elmwood also asked that the project be tabled saying, “this has only been public knowledge for less than two weeks and the public never saw the redesign. How can you vote on anything that no one has seen yet? The Board cut off Morris saying, “so specifically you don’t have any problem with it [the design] you just…” Morris then said, “Oh I am totally against this project, but thats besides the point isn’t it.”

The planning board is also concerned that the current design may still be too big.

At one point Board member Susan Curran Hoyt said, “we know you’ve cut down your number of rooms on this project, but we still see it doesn’t seem to fit the description of a ‘botique’ hotel,” and asked Eva Hassett, Vice President of Savarino Construction, “we wonder if you could reduce the rooms further.”

“One thing I didn’t talk about was the price levels of these rooms and that will be important to know. The room rate will be somewhere between US$120 and $160 a night, which is about the same price of the Hampton Inn down town and the smaller you make the hotel, the more expensive the rooms will get. We believe that we’ve made a good compromise in terms of the size of the hotel and perhaps botique means different things to different people,” said Hassett.

The board was also concerned that there is not enough parking asking, “are there alternative plans for valet parking off-site, in the event that you have a full hotel or a large event going on?”

“We are exploring several possibilities with respect to additional parking for valet and parking near-by,” replied Hassett. “We are also exploring the possibility of using the rear of 1105 Elmwood for additional parking, which would give us an additional ten or eleven spaces.”

The new design has a total of 55 parking spaces for 72 rooms, with 39 of them underground and the rest on ground level.

Hassett also said that a “parking study” will be done on the area.

Concerns that the second floor of the hotel will be too close to the property of 605 Forest were also brought up. The board asked how far the hotel would be from the property and Karl Frizlen replied saying it would “be approximately five feet from the property line,” but he also admitted that, “I do not know exactly how close the house next door” will be from the hotel, but did say “I think the house is about four or five feet away from the property line and we [the hotel] sit right on the property line.”

The board is concerned the setback from the property is not enough saying the space between the building and the hotel is “pretty narrow.”

The City’s Common Council also agreed to table the proposal also citing the need for more public engagement and the need for more organizations to respond including the Buffalo Preservation Board and the Office of Historic Preservation.

During that meeting, Hassett also said the proposal to try and get a variance to obtain the properties of 605 and 607 Forest were “now off the agenda.”

The Common Council is expected to meet and hold a public hearing about the project and the rezoning of the properties to be demolished (1119-1121 Elmwood) on Tuesday March 7, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall. At the moment the properties are not zoned for a hotel.

Ren and Stimpy. Bugs Bunny. Philip J. Fry and Professor Hubert Farnsworth on Futurama. Sparx. Bi-Polar Bear. Popeye the Sailor Man. Woody Woodpecker. You may not think you have ever heard Billy West, but chances are on a television program, a movie, a commercial, or as Howard Stern’s voice guru in the 1990’s, you have heard him. West’s talent for creating personalities by twisting his voice has made him one of a handful of voice actors—Hank Azaria and the late Mel Blanc come to mind—who have achieved celebrity for their talent. Indeed, West is one of the few voice actors who can impersonate Blanc in his prime, including characterizations of Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Elmer Fudd and other characters from Warner Bros. cartoons.

What is the fulcrum in Mr. West’s life that led him to realize a talent to shape personalities with his voice, and how did the discovery of that gift shape him? Wikinews reporter David Shankbone found that like many great comedians, West faced more sour early in life than he did sweet. The sour came from a physically and emotionally abusive alcoholic father (“I could tell you the kind of night I was going to have from the sound of the key in the door or the way the car pulled up.”), to his own problems with drug and alcohol use (“There is a point that you can reach in your life where you don’t want to live, but you haven’t made the decision to die.”).

I’m telling you stuff that I never said to anybody…

If sin, suffering and redemption feel like the stages of an endless cycle of American existence, West’s own redemption from his brutalized childhood is what helped shape his gift. He performed little bits to cheer up his cowed mother, ravaged by the fact she could not stop her husband’s abuse of young West. “I was the whipping boy and she would just be reduced to tears a lot of times, and I would come in and say stuff, and I would put out little bits just to pull her out of it.”

But West has also enjoyed the sweet. His career blossomed as his talent for creating entire histories behind fictional characters and creatures simply by exploring nuance in his voice landed him at the top of his craft. You may never again be able to forget that behind the voice of your favorite character, there is often an extraordinary life.

Below is David Shankbone’s interview with renowned voice actor Billy West, who for the first time publicly talks about the horrors he faced in his childhood; his misguided search for answers in anger, drugs and alcohol; and the peace he has achieved as one of America’s most recognizable voice actors.

Former US Senator Ted Stevens among five killed in Alaska plane crash

Former US Senator Ted Stevens among five killed in Alaska plane crash

Former US Senator Ted Stevens, 86, and former NASA administrator Sean O’Keefe, 54, were on an airplane that crashed in southwest Alaska, the Associated Press reports. A family spokesperson later confirmed that Stevens died in the crash, following earlier conflicting reports about his status. Both O’Keefe and his teenage son survived, according to a former NASA spokesperson.

In addition to the former Senator and former NASA chief, there were seven other passengers, The New York Times reports. Of those, five were reported to have died. The plane was heading to a fishing lodge near Lake Aleknagik when it crashed. Senator Stevens’ body has been recovered.

The Alaska National Guard was called in at 7:00 p.m. AKDT (0300 UTC) Monday, and arrived at the crash site about 7:30 a.m. AKDT (1530 UTC) Tuesday. Severe weather has made finding the crash site difficult for rescue personnel. The National Transportation Safety Board, or NTSB, said it was sending a team of investigators to the crash site, which is unusual for crashes of private aircraft.

As of 10:00 a.m. AKDT (1800 UTC), three of the survivors have been airlifted from the site by the United States Coast Guard.

Ted Stevens was born on November 18, 1923 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He began serving as a US Senator for Alaska in 1968, and held the postition until 2009, when he was defeated in a reelection bid by Mark Begich. He was also facing corruption charges at the time, which were later dropped after an initial conviction when it was found that prosecutors had withheld evidence from Stevens’ defense attorneys. In 1978, Stevens survived a plane crash in Anchorage, although the incident claimed the life of his first wife, Ann.

Sean O’Keefe was nominated as a NASA administrator in 2001 by then-president George W. Bush, and led the space organization through shaky times, such as the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster. He resigned in 2005 to become the chancellor of Louisiana State University.

The Virtual Assistant Dominates The Employee

The Virtual Assistant Dominates the Employee

by

Amone Echru

Before we get to the main topic, what exactly is a virtual assistant? Individuals who are used to internet marketing are probably aware about these professionals. In fact, online business owners take advantage of online assistants in various outsourcing companies due to the vast array of skills that they possess.

Generally, virtual assistants are self-employed professionals who have the ability to provide remote administrative assistance to their clients who are running small to big businesses. How they are paid depends on the agreement stated on the contract. They can be paid hourly, bimonthly, monthly or simply on a per project basis. But the main question is: what do these highly skilled professionals possess that they tend to dominate regular employees nowadays?

When hiring regular employees, there are those insurances, social security and payroll taxes that you have to deal with and don\’t deny that you find these things truly cumbersome. But guess what? These irksome factors aren\’t needed when hiring virtual assistants. No wonder online business owners prefer them.

[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJh9KssNLuc[/youtube]

Hiring a virtual assistant doesn\’t require you to provide an additional space to your office. Usually, you need extra room or space when hiring a regular employee and this is another problem you need to take care of. Fortunately, this isn\’t the case with virtual assistants simply because they have their own space when working. In fact, they\’ll provide their own equipment as well.

Another benefit you can acquire when hiring a virtual assistant is the opportunity to pay him on a \’per project\’ basis only. This advantage is almost impossible with a typical employee. Hiring a regular assistant requires you to provide a fixed salary whether this person has completed all his tasks or not.

Are you tired of reprimanding your employee due to those numerous hours wasted because of chatting with other colleagues or simply doing nothing at all? Well, this torment can be easily eliminated with the help of a virtual assistant for he can guarantee that he\’ll stay on schedule all the time.

One big bonus of hiring a virtual assistant is the unnecessary need of an extra staff even during peak seasons. This isn\’t plausible with regular employees. Peak seasons are usually those moments when you need additional employees to work for you. Unfortunately, this is a hassle when sticking to typical assistants. But with virtual assistants, the problem is solved immediately.

Virtual assistants are known to have superior multitasking skills. Therefore, you can be reliant to them no matter how bulky the workload could be. Without these elite professionals, you\’re only limited to the number of employees available and this can consume a lot of your time.

Finally, an interesting benefit regarding virtual assistants in different outsourcing companies is the support they can provide at night and even during weekends! With this bonus, your business will surely progress at a faster rate. Although there are some regular employees who can work during these times, finding them is like searching for a needle in a haystack.

With the significant increase of virtual assistants these days, more and more people are expanding their businesses on the internet as well. If you\’re an open-minded person and you want to consider outsourcing, you\’ll definitely realize how advantageous these online assistants could be to your business.

Remote BPO Outsourcing hires talented virtual assistants where you can acquire all the benefits and perks mentioned above. Visit their website, meet the team and envision the immediate growth of your business with their assistance.
