Lead programmer of Microsoft Word, Joe Friend, wrote on his blog that the upcoming version of Microsoft Word (which will be a part of Microsoft Office 2007 suite) will have blog editing and publishing functions.

Friend said: “When I write a blog post using my blog providers web-based editor I miss some of the familiar Word features that I’ve come to rely on, specifically background spelling (those little red squiggles) and autocorrect. These features keep me from making stupid mistakes.”

Friend also said that Word 2007 will not generate unnecessary HTML code. “Bold become <strong>, Italic becomes <em>, Heading 1 become <h1>, Quotes become <blockquote> and on it goes.”

Previously, critics of Microsoft Word’s HTML generation capabilities held that the application generated unneeded and bulky HTML code.

Graphic files that users would use in blog entries will be converted to the PNG format, which includes support for alpha channel (i.e. partial) transparency.

To create new or publish post, there will be three mouse-clicks: to create File ? New… ? New Blog Post); to publish File ? Publish ? Blog.

Yesterday in UEFA Euro 2016, Belgium defeated the Republic of Ireland 3–0, Iceland versus Hungary ended in a 1–1 draw, and Portugal versus Austria ended in a goalless draw. Iceland scored an own goal and Cristiano Ronaldo missed a penalty kick.

Eden Hazard led Belgium after a 0–2 loss to Italy. Romelo Lukaku opened the scoring in the 48th minute. Within a quarter hour, Axel Witsel netted the second goal of the match from a header in the 61st minute. Ten minutes later, Hazard assisted Lukaku who scored the third goal of the match.

Belgium are second in their group table with three points.

Gylfi Sigurðsson scored from the penalty spot around the 40th minute putting Iceland ahead before the half-time whistle. The Hungarians, who won their previous fixture defeating Austria 2–0, had better ball possession and passing accuracy than Iceland, but were unable to equalise. Later, around the 88th minute, Birkir Már Sævarsson scored an own goal and the match ended in a 1–1 draw.

Iceland have drawn 1–1 in both of their group fixtures. Hungary is at the top of the Group F table with four points.

Portugal versus Austria was the second goalless draw of the tournament. Six players were booked in the match. Portugal had greater ball possession. In the 78th minute, Martin Hinteregger of Austria was yellow-carded for bringing down Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo. Portugal won a penalty kick, but Ronaldo hit the woodwork.

Portugal made 23 attempts to score. In contrast, Austria had just three attempts.

Eight people are dead and two more are missing and presumed dead after an explosion and fire on a cargo ship undergoing repairs at a naval dockyard in Kaliningrad, Russia.

The container ship MV Yenisey was the scene of an explosion while in drydock at about 3:00 p.m. Moscow time (11:00 GMT). Ten people were missing after the explosion. It was confirmed today that the eighth body has been recovered, and the remaining two are thought to be dead as well. Three more were injured.

Captain 1st Rank Igor Dygalo, acting as a navy spokesperson, said “Each family of the victims of the fire on the Yenisey civilian vessel will be paid more than a million rubles.” This makes their compensation roughly equivalent to US$43,000.

Dygolo said that the dockyard, in the closed military town of Baltiysk, near Kaliningrad, had been leased to the Yenisey’s St Petersburg owner, a private company, who were conducting the work themselves. He said an investigation has been launched by the navy led by top admiral Vladimir Vysotsky.

Vysotski himself has indicated that serious safety legislation breaches concerning welding regulations by both the vessel’s owner and the naval dockyard’s bosses. He did not go into details, but RIA Novosti claimed that a source at the dockyard said a gas burner applied to the roof of a fuel tank to heat and therefore loosen its bolts had triggered the disaster.

Today is an official day of mourning for Kaliningrad Region to mark the deaths.
